Now, you can have expert advice on hand to help you make the right selection. PotBot is an app that uses artificial intelligence to screen peer-review medical journals to help medical marijuana patients select the best marijuana strain for their symptoms.

The product was developed by the start-up company PotBotics, founded by father and son duo Baruch and David Goldstein. The company has been operational since 2015 and in that time has raised $5 million in funding. Put simply, the company is “focused on elevating cannabis to higher standards,” explained CEO David Goldstein.

Although the PotBot product has received the most media attention recently, PotBotics actually offers a trifecta of products designed to improve the medical marijuana industry.

Technology Will Drive the Industry Forward

The company is currently developing a very niche, specialized product called BrainBot. The website describes this as a “wireless EEG (electroencephalography) helmet that allows general practitioners to capture brainwaves.” This brain activity would then allow medical professionals to determine the best strain of marijuana for particular needs.

Alternately, on a completely different level is NanoPot. This product is “an advanced DNA reader that scans cannabis seeds to optimize growers’ yield.” In short, the gene-radar technology gives cannabis farmers the information they need to create optimal strains of marijuana for specific results. This essentially includes a customized blueprint on how to grow their desired plants with instructions on irrigation, sunlight and other factors.

These two products are still in the development phase. However, PotBot has already reached market and proven itself to be a useful tool for medical professionals, patients and dispensaries alike.

The app, which is available for all iPhone, Android and desktop devices, can make recommendations for over 750 different strains of marijuana available on the market to help treat specific medical symptoms. These symptoms may include insomnia, migraines, mood swings and can even be specified for specific disorders and diseases. These can range from ADHD and depression to Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s Disease.

Strain Recommendations Based on Biology

The app can also make recommendations based on the user’s desired outcome, thus making it valuable to recreational users as well. The “desired relief” options include boosting energy levels, eliminating nausea and relieving chronic pain, among many others. Based on the user’s input, the app will provide recommendations not just on specific names of strains (which may vary in quality and composition depending on the grower) but also the ideal balance of cannabinoids to achieve the desired effect.

The specific strain recommendations then include a full biological profile with relevant information such as percentage of each cannabinoid present, type, origin and best form of consumption. The app also provides information on where to purchase the recommended strain from nearby dispensaries. In addition to the app, Potbot is available in kiosk form, often located at dispensaries for the customer’s convenience.

David Goldstein is very confident in his product’s continued success. “We definitely see there’s interest in the industry, for sure. It’s one that has real potential in the United States and internationally.”
